Moderate acne is when you have raised reddish bumps ( papules or pustules ) that are widespread across your face or other affected areas. In this case, lesions don't go away as easy as in the case of mild acne. Untreated, moderate acne can lead to a severe form and it can leave your skin with permanent scars. So, the best thing to do, when you see that common treatments are not working for you, is to see a dermatologist to get a stronger treatment.
In case of moderate acne you may be prescribed with some antibiotics, that you can apply them directly to your skin or swallow them in tablets. Antibiotics have an anti-inflammatory effect and they reduce the bacterias in your skin.
The doctor may also prescribe you a topical retinoid cream. In this case , after using the cream, you may experience some discomfort in the first weeks of treatment ( redness, stinging, peeling ), but this is normal and in the next couple of weeks you should see the difference: a real improvement in your acne problem. Always clean your face well before applying the medicated cream and avoid the sensitive areas ( skin, mouth ).
Don't ever feel ashamed or afraid to ask professional advice. Not every skin problem can be solved by you alone. A dermatologist can determine the most effective treatment for you, he has the equipment and the knowledge to help you and he can provide you with customised treatments that are not available in any other way.
